THIRTY-EIGHT days and counting! I am sooo excited! NOT!!

| Here's how it looked a couple of weeks ago. |
I have mixed feelings about the opening of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter. I like to think that I live in the wild west and in one of the last places on earth without a Wal-Mart Supercenter. All of that will change when Wal-Mart closes its only store in the valley and opens the Supercenter in Depotland. Not only does it change my romantic image of Kalispell, I also find myself becoming increasingly indifferent to this big box store. Remember the days when Wal-Mart's slogan was “MADE IN AMERICA”? Hard to imagine now, but it's true. I keep wanting to protest and buy all my stuff at Costco. But giant sized, and I do mean BIG BOX, doesn't always suit my purpose. Besides I'm
thrifty, having been raised by a mom who grew up in the
Depression. You know it's tough to beat those Wal-Mart prices on stuff like laundry detergent, paper supplies, pet food, toiletries, auto supplies, etc. What’s a girl to do? So like it or not the Wal-Mart Supercenter is opening in June. Perhaps my Wal-Mart shopper husband and my daughter will take charge of doing the marketing once a month. Wouldn't that be great?!
Please take a moment and let me know if you LOVE 'em or HATE 'em.....Wal-Mart I mean.
Now here's a link to my post in November all about...you guessed it...Wal-Mart!
Until next time,
Marlene

lol! I know exactly how you feel.
I have to say that I find the best prices at our own Supercenter. However, it's always jammed beyond belief. So if I need to grab something quickly...Wally World is not my first choice!

I remember when we first got our super walmart quite a few years back. I was very excited, however within the last 7 years, my excitement has quickly faded. I will do anything I can to avoid going to Walmart! But, there are times I do have to go for certain things. If i cant find it at the dollar store, then i must make myself go to walmart. The people there are a little scary sometimes lol. Just go to www.peopleofwalmart.com and you will see what i mean lol
I'm worried about how this will affect Evergreen as an area (it could be good or bad... K-Mart might finally get some business, etc). I'm also worried about traffic around Wal-Mart... it seems rather poorly engineered in my opinion (one light, not just for Wal-Mart but for the cinemas, HuHot, Bajio, JD Morell's, etc). Time will tell.
Overall, though, I think one really good thing is that area of town has desperately needed a grocery store for years now...
I know what you mean. There's this small town near me and it's known for its Farmer's Market and little shops. Two minutes away they are putting a Wal Mart Supercenter. This ruins the feel of the little town, and of course many of the things at Wal Mart will be cheaper then the Farmer's Markets produce. I fear for these farmers.
I fear we're becoming too obsessed with saving money, that we're losing tradition.

I know what your talking about. I lived in a city where there was a super walmart every 5 miles now I live in a smaller town and there are 2 with in 10 mile of my house. You just can't get away from them.

it's amazing how much extra time you have on your hands to bad-talk something that's going to bring so many jobs to the valley.
reading this was a waste of anyones time
Nice blog you got here... Just droppin' by to say hi! http://www.arts-and-entertainment.info
You know that Lady Gaga song, "Bad Romance?" Yeah. That's the way I feel about Wal Mart. I refused to buy clothes there when I heard about the terrible factory conditions they tolerate, but I am a hypocrite because I shop there for food and sundry.
My activist personality beats me soundly each time I go. But I still go.
I just looked up the area where the Walmart was put in and there's a Jeep/Chrysler dealership and an Applebees nearby. Those are NATIONAL businesses also. The area where the store was put in was not all tumbleweeds and cowboys, so its not as if Walmart is ruining the environment there. It is only contributing to the other businesses surrounding. Besides that, some of those businesses have some non-USA-made items as well, so why are we complaining? Oh, thats right, because its trendy to complain about Walmart.
Walmart started out a small business just like any other, they had no advantages. Their success came from good business practices. So, when people complain about Walmart, it reminds me of high school kids hating on a classmate because they got a better graduation gift. Walmart earned their place, let them be. We should be celebrating the success of such a great American business, not downplaying what they've done.
Congrats on the new Walmart! :)
Well, one thing is for sure, everyone seems to have an opinion of Walmart. I do believe Sam Walton was quite the entrepeneur and the success of Walmart over the years demonstrates the publics continued desire for inexpensive merchandise. I for one am disappointed in the quality of goods but have noticed this applies to other establishments as well.
The old Walmart located by Applebees and the car dealership has closed while the new Super Walmart is located in what I call Depotland. This shopping area serves Flathead County with a number of stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, Target, Best Buy,restaurants, theater, etc. And I do see some tumbleweed out there sometime. :)
Thank you all for stopping by my blog and I hope to hear from you again soon.
Cheers,
Marlene
